Qatar visa rules changes, foreigners can get nationality now
Qatar visa rlues are changed and it has become first Gulf country which is going to award nationality to foreigners. People who are living in Qatar since minimum 20 years can now apply for permanent resident visas, conditions are apply. “HH the Amir has issued the Law No. 10 of 2018 on permanent residency.”
According to this notification regardig Qatar visa and immigration rule,”HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani issued Law No. 10 of 2018 on permanent residency yesterday. The law is effective and will be published in the official gazette.”
Now expatriates who live on Qatar visa, can obtain a permanent residency permit in Qatar, if they meet the following conditions:
1. The applicant should have completed 20 years in Qatar on a legal ordinary residency permit if he/she was born outside of Qatar.
The applicant who born in Qatar, needs to complete 10 years in Qatar. The residency duration must be consecutive and should be prior to the submission date of the application for the permanent residency permit.
This law explains that the continuation of the applicant’s residency in Qatar should not be interrupted by staying outside the country for over 60 days in a year and the duration of the stay outside of Qatar will be deducted from the balance of the residency within Qatar.
There is another condition, If the applicant leaves Qatar after applying for the permanent residency permit for more than six months consecutively, the Minister of Interior has the right to disqualify the applicant’s previous residency duration in the country.
2. The applicant should have enough income to cover the expenses of himself/herself and his/her family. A cabinet decision will specify the applicant’s minimum income along with exceptional cases.
3. The good conduct and reputation is must for the applicant . He/ She should not have any previous convictions of any dishonourable offences, unless has been rehabilitated in accordance with Qatar’s law.
4. The applicant who have been living on Qatar visa, should have sufficient knowledge of the Arabic language.
On the other hand, Qatar has approved legislation to scrap controversial exit visas which require all foreign workers to obtain their employers’ permission to leave the country, according to official statements published Tuesday.
Some of two million foreign workers are working on Qatar visa, many employed directly or indirectly on vast infrastructure projects for the football World Cup, which will take place in the emirate in 2022.
Now according to new law, only a maximum five percent of each company”s workforce — thought to be those in the most senior positions — will still need permission to leave Qatar.
This law change “regulating the entry, exit and residency of expatriates” is also issued as an Emiri decree by the country”s ruler Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani.
